RÚV English Radio

Episode 288 - ICELAND'S NORTHERNMOST POINT (ALMOST...)

Today, RÚV English Radio travels to the top of the Icelandic mainland - nearly.

Hraunhafnartangi was long thought to be the northernmost point of Iceland's mainland, until the nearby Rifstangi was found to sit a few tens of metres further to the north.

Despite losing its geographical crown, it remains a place of staggeringly bleak beauty.

On a recent trip back from Raufarhöfn, Darren took a detour north around the wild and virtually deserted edge of the Melrakkaslétta peninsula, to pause at this (almost) extremity.

RÚV English Radio is daily radio coverage of everything Icelandic - news, culture, music, language, events, people, places and more, in the English language.
