Episode 168 - BAKIR ANWAR NASSAR IN AKRANES

Today, RÚV English Radio is in Akranes.

A few weeks ago, we heard the story of Bakir Anwar Nassar, who was just ten years old when he came to Iceland with his mother and two siblings. They, with 25 others, had travelled from the Al Waleed refugee camp on the border between Iraq and Syria.

Bakir is now 25, and the story of his new life in Iceland prompted many warm responses.

Darren went to Akranes to meet Bakir, and hear more about living in Akranes, his work at the beautiful Guðlaug baths, his love of football, and of Iceland, and his first memories of the country.

RÚV English Radio is the new name for the RÚV English Podcast!

We cover everything Icelandic - news, culture, music, language, events, people, places and more.

You can find our daily English show in all the same places, including Spotify and Apple and all podcast outlets - if you are a subscriber, nothing will change, the programme will pop up as it always has, just with a new name and image.

Find the show right here on the RÚV Player exactly as before - all the new shows will appear in the usual way at https://www.ruv.is/utvarp/spila/ruv-english-radio/34448 - and that is also where you will find the archive of all previous podcast episodes.
