Episode 247 - THE WEEK IN ICELAND: GRINDAVÍK, SVANDÍS, BJARNI, CABLES, CHICKENS AND DRINK

This week on RÚV English Radio, it's a new episode of The Week In Iceland,

Darren is joined by his RÚV colleague Ingibjörg Sara Guðmundsdóttir, to hear the latest on the government's plans for the still-evacuated residents of Grindavík.

In a conversation recorded just moments before Svandís Svavarsdóttir, Minister of Food, announced that she was on immediate leave following a diagnosis of breast cancer, they discuss the motion of no-confidence in her at Alþingi - although it is now unclear what will happen to that.

They also discuss the controversial Facebook post of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bjarni Benediktsson, as well as what would happen if Iceland lost its subsea connections to Europe and the world, the long-delayed ban on caged chickens finally comes into force, and the drop in alcohol sales during Dry January.

RÚV English Radio is daily radio coverage of everything Icelandic - news, culture, music, language, events, people, places and more, in the English language.
