Yesterday, around 13:30, the volcano erupted in Meradalir on the Reykjanes Peninsula. The reporters and camera operators from RÚV were quickly on the scene and have been in the area all day talking to the responders and capturing the eruption in a photo.

The news agency has also received material from many sources, including pilots flying over the area in the afternoon.

The first moments of the eruption were poorly visible on the RÚV webcam, which had been placed in Langhóll yesterday. One of the first aerial photos of the volcanic eruption taken by Páll Arnarson and Ernir Snær yesterday afternoon shows the extent of the fissure. It is approximately 300 meters long and has a fairly evenly distributed lava flow.
