Heiðar Örn Sigurfinnsson has this week been appointed the new head of news at RÚV. At the same time, Matthías Már Magnússon was appointed the director of Rás 2 radio. Both roles were advertised in mid-January and Hagvangur, an outside consulting company, oversaw the recruitment process.

Four people applied for the job of head of news. Heiðar Örn was joined in the process by RÚV broadcast journalist Valgeir Örn Ragnarsson, division manager Þór Jónsson, and the former news editor at Stöð 2, Vísir, and Bylgjan, Þórir Guðmundsson.

Five people applied to lead Rás 2: Ágúst Héðinsson, project manager; Guðmundur Gunnarsson, change manager; Jóna Valborg Árnadóttir, specialist; Matthías Már Magnússon, deputy director of Rás 2; and Sigurður Ragnarsson, managing director.

Heiðar Örn first joined RÚV in 2005 and became deputy head of news in 2017. He has been acting head of news since the start of this year, and now takes on the role permanently.

Matthías Már joined RÚV in 2008 and has been deputy director of Rás 2 since 2015.
