Several purchase offers have been submitted for a plot of land at Hraun, to the east of Grindavík. The plot happens to include Geldingadalir and its active erupting volcano.
According to Vísir, the chairman of the Hraun landowners' association says there appears to be great interest in owning an erupting volcano.
Sigurður Guðjón Gíslason adds that several offers for the land have been received and that some of them are being investigated seriously. Some of the offers are for the whole area, while others are just for a part of it. Sigurður refused to say who the offers came from.
He would also not speculate on the financial value of any potential deal, but says the price is under review.
Hraun is jointly owned by 20 landowners who have periodically considered seling it over the years. They are willing to sell for the right price, according to their chairman.
