Mörg þúsund Þjóðverjar mótmæla sóttvarnaraðgerðum

Um 15 þúsund Þjóðverjar flykktust út á götur Berlínar, höfuðborgar Þýskalands, í dag og mótmæltu sóttvarnaraðgerðum yfirvalda þar í landi. Samkvæmt fréttaritara BBC í Berlín voru í hópi mótmælendanna öfga-hægrimenn og fólk sem aðhyllist samsæriskenningar.

Mótmælin voru kölluð „dagur frelsis“ og á vef BBC segir að mótmælin hafi verið friðsæl en sóttvarnarreglur virtar að vettugi, fólk hafi hvorki borið grímur né haldið fjarlægð sín á milli. Í Þýskalandi er mælst til þess að fólk haldi að minnsta kosti einum og hálfum metra á milli sín og beri hlífðargrímur þar sem það er ekki hægt, til dæmis í almenningssamgöngum og í verslunum. 

Haft er eftir mótmælanda að með göngunni hafi mótmælendur krafist þess að „lýðræðið verði endurvakið og ný lög afnumin sem geri fólk að þrælum“.

Þjóðverjar hafa sloppið betur frá faraldrinum en margar Evrópuþjóðir en þó hefur smitum fjölgað hratt þar upp á síðkastið. Í gær greindust fleiri en 900 ný smit í Þýskalandi og sjö létu lífið af völdum COVID-19. Frá upphafi faraldursins hafa 9.000 andlát verið rakin til COVID-19 sjúkdómsins og 210.000 greinst smitaðir.
