Last weekend, the Skógarböðin geothermal baths in Akureyri were officially opened. Preparations for the opening were long as it was first planned for the beginning of the year.

Tinna Jóhannsdóttir, director of Skógarböðin, said that on the first day of opening, there was a steady stream of people from lunch until midnight. Most customers came to swim, but some came to see the new place and eat at the restaurant.

Bookings for summer and fall

The website was immediately active, and many reservations were received, not only for the summer but also for the upcoming fall. Both Icelandic and foreign clients make reservations.

Bathing in water from the Vadlaheiðar tunnel

The water that guests bathe in comes from a vein of hot water discovered during the construction of the Vadlaheiðar Tunnel. Since 2014, the hot water has been flowing into the sea and has now found a good use.
