The body found on the shore at Eiðsgrandi in Reykjavík on Wednesday afternoon was that of a woman in her sixties, it has been confirmed. Initial police investigation does not indicate her death occurred as the result of a crime.

This was confirmed to reporters yesterday evening by the capital region police information officer.

The body was discovered on rocks at Eiðsgrandi, on the north Reykjavík shore, close to the border with Seltjarnarnes, early Wednesday afternoon. There was a large police presence, with search & rescue team backup.

Police have yet to confirm the identity of the deceased woman and forensics teams have combed the beach and rocks in search for personal items to help identify her.
