The Icelandic women’s national team in group gymnastics last night finished second in the quarter finals of the European championships, taking place in Portugal. The final takes place tomorrow, on Saturday, and tough competition is expected between Iceland and Sweden. Tinna Ólafsdóttir says the team has more in reserve for the final.

The team’s floor routines were superb and the first two rounds on the mats and the trampette were also highly professional. Tinna says, however, that the final rounds in both have been better during practice. “We’re going to just nail it on Saturday,” she says.

The team is very close and all members are good friends, Tinna says. “We are always together. We practice five times a week and then the other days we go swimming together. We are literally a family.”

Today is their rest day. A chance to breathe before the challenges of tomorrow. They plan to make good use of the spa at their hotel.

Tinna spoke to RÚV sport after the semi-final. The final tomorrow will be shown live on RÚV TV, starting at 12.55.
