Members of the Icelandic Cabin Crew Association have voted to reject the pay and conditions contract negotiated on their behalf with the SA Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise on behalf of Icelandair. The contract was agreed on 25th June, members started voting on it last Thursday, and voting ended at midday today. Roughly three quarters of voting members rejected the offer.

The Association says contract negotiations will now re-start as soon as possible, while Icelandair says it will examine all possible available options.

At 85.3 percent, the turnout among members eligible to vote was very high compared to most union wage contract ballots. 72.65 percent voted no to the deal, 26.46 percent yes, and 0.89 percent submitted blank votes.

The union interprets the result as a message from cabin crew that Icelandair is pushing cost-cutting too far and says in a statement that its negotiators will arrive at the State Mediator’s office when called with a strong desire to cooperate and reach a fair deal, but with the strong message from their members in their back pocket.
