Representatives of the District Prosecutor met with Norwegian and Namibian police representatives in the Dutch city of The Hague last week to discuss the Samherji case.

The meeting was first reported on by Stöð 2, and the office of the District Prosecutor has since confirmed with RÚV that the meeting took place.

The Hague is home to the headquarters of Europol, the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation.

As reported extensively in recent weeks, managers at the Icelandic fishing company Samherji are suspected of having bribed high-ranking officials in Namibia in order to secure valuable fishing quotas.

As reported on RÚV’s Kveikur programme, payments from Samherji are thought to have originated in Norwegian bank accounts.
