Flights to and from Iceland could come to a complete halt by the end of March, Iceland's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson has warned. The Icelandic government is not currently restricting flights to and from the country, but travel bans in other countries and a collapse in passenger numbers is seeing the number of cancellations rise quickly.

In an announcement published on the ministry‘s Facebook page, the minister urges all Icelanders abroad who are planning to return to Iceland to do so immediately, as all flights to the country may well be cancelled by the end of this month.

Conversely, although not explicitly stated in the Minister‘s statement, it can be inferred from this, that all persons planning to leave Iceland in the near future should also do so as soon as possible, to avoid being stuck in Iceland for an extended period of time.
