A single adult fare on Strætó buses in the capital region will increase to 550 krónur from Saturday, the 1st October, the bus company announced online today.

The current cost of a standard fare is 490 krónur, which means the increase amounts to 12.5 percent.

The cost of a 30-day student pass is also going up. It currently costs 4,000 krónur and will cost 4,500 from Saturday.

The statement from Strætó says that fares have remained unchanged since the start of 2021 and that the fare increase now is a response to the company’s increased costs—not least the increase in fuel prices.

Strætó states that problems caused by the pandemic are still being felt and that the combined impact of these factors on operations will amount to 1.5 to 2 billion krónur.

The statement reads: “Efforts are always made to keep all price increases at Strætó minimal, and this increase is intended to reduce the need for further cost cutting in the Strætó route network in the capital region. Furthermore, the capital region municipalities will look into further support for Strætó operations than previously planned in the 2022 financial plan.”
