The resident of an apartment complex at Miðvangur street in Hafnarfjörður suspected of shooting at two stationary cars in a car park has come out of the house and was arrested. This was confirmed by Skúli Jónsson, Deputy Commissioner of police.

The man came out about 12.20. He was arrested and taken to the police station.

Skúli told the midday RÚV news that a formal investigation was now underway and the streets at the scene would soon be reopened. He said almost 30 police officers were involved in the operation.

The shooting was reported by the owner of one of the cars that was shot at. The Deputy Commissioner said the man was interviewed this morning and offered psychological assistance, as it was difficult to experience being shot at in this way.

Neighbours who are shaken or upset are advised to call the Red Cross on 1717 and seek assistance.
