
H-listinn Fyrir Heimaey received nearly 36 percent of the vote at the election and has three councillors, while Eyjalistinn received 20 percent and two councillors. Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn (the Independence Party) received just over 44 percent of the vote and has four councillors, who will form the opposition.
A statement from the two majority parties says that family and education/training issues will remain in focus for the next four years, alongside responsible finanial management and investment in infrastructure.
The number of councillors in Vestmannaeyjar increases from seven to nine at the election, and the two new seats are taken by Eyjalistinn and Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn.
