Witnesses found young man on bottom of lagoon

As reported yesterday, capital region police are investigating a death at the Sky Lagoon spa. The man who died was in his twenties, it has been confirmed.

The man was found unconscious in the lagoon in Kópavogur on Tuesday evening and later passed away at Landspítali national university hospital. According to RÚV sources, witnesses raised the alarm when they discovered the man lying motionless on the bottom of the lagoon. 

Police are not saying much at the moment and said in a press release that the investigation is in its early stages. 

Chief constable Grímur Grímsson told RÚV that CCTV footage is being examined, witnesses interviewed, and an autopsy carried out. There is no indication the man died under suspicious circumstances at this stage. 

The police released the following statement yesterday afternoon: 

"Around six yesterday, the police were called to Sky Lagoon in Kópavogur because of a man in his twenties who had lost consciousness. Resuscitation attempts began immediately at the scene and the man, who was a guest at the location, then transported to Landspítali, but he died there yesterday evening.”
