The airline PLAY informed that it will only allow on board passengers who present a negative COVID-19 test. In the announcement, a reason given for this change is to ensure safety of the passengers and the crew.
The decision is in line with the new regulation presented by the Icelandic State, where every arriving passenger must present a negative test, proving no current COVID-19 infection, and it is the responsibility of the airline to verify that.
It is stated in the announcement that “this does not breach the rights of Icelanders to return home but causes temporary disturbance in the light of the circumstances”. This is a temporary measure and those who cannot provide a negative test result, will be booked on another flight with no additional cost.
The CEO of PLAY, Birgir Jónsson, said that the airline is not the boarder control. Though it is important to ensure safety of the other passengers and the crew. “I think the people would be very dissatisfied if they knew there are infected passengers on the plane,” he added. “It would not put us in a good light.”
