A man was stabbed with a knife at Ingólfstorg square in central Reykjavík on Saturday night. He is still in serious condition and being held in an artificial coma at Landspítali national university hospital.
According to chief constable Grímur Grímsson from the capital region police, the victim is no longer in critical danger.
A man around the age of 20 was yesterday remanded in custody over the stabbing. The victim is of a similar age. A statement from the police is expected later today.
Grímur says the attacker has been questioned and that police are now going over evidence and talking to witnesses to try and established exactly what happened.
Police are also searching through CCTV footage to see if any cameras caught the attack. They are also investigating a possible link between the stabbing and a car fire in Kópavogur.
