Capital region police have confiscated a vehicle as part of their investigation into the case of the man who died at Landspítali national university hospital on Saturday from head injuries sustained the previous day outside his home in Kópavogur. Police are investigating whether the man was killed in a premeditated act, or an act of negligence.

According to assistant police chief Margeir Sveinsson, the preliminary pathologist’s report has not yet been received but is expected soon.

A Romanian citizen in his 20s was remanded in custody until Friday in connection to the death. His lawyer told RÚV on Sunday that his client maintains it was an accident and that he is devastated. He says his client had no idea at the time that Daníel Eiríksson had been seriously injured.

Margeir would not say whether there are any confirmed witnesses, but said officers have spoken to neighbours and that the investigation continues. According to RÚV sources, one of the things police are investigating is whether the victim was hit by the moving car. Margeir confirms one car has been confiscated, but would not comment further. Two other men arrested at the weekend were released after questioning.
