A man died on Saturday from injuries sustained outside his home in Kópavogur on Friday.

The victim’s name was Daníel Eiríksson, his sister confirmed in a public post on social media. Daníel was born in 1990.

A man in his 20s was remanded in custody for five days by Reykjanes District Court yesterday at the request of police as the investigation continues.

It is not known precisely how Daníel was injured, but it is believed he may have been hit by a car.

Three foreign citizens were arrested following the incident and two have since been released. The man who remains in custody says the death was accidental. His defence lawyers said yesterday that they would take a day to decide whether or not to appeal the custody decision.

The case has been reported in the media as an attack rather than an accident, though police remain tight-lipped. The case is not believed to be connected to the Rauðagerði shooting case which is also still under investigation.
