So far this year, the capital region police have received 655 domestic violence notifications, which is 12 percent above the three-year average. Nearly double the number of sexual assault notices reached the police in October than the previous month, according to raw monthly data for October released this week from the police force.

October saw 848 breaches of the criminal code registered in the capital region; up from 787 in September.

30 sexual assault notifications were received last month, which was a large jump from 17 in September. Overall this year so far, however, sexual assault reports are down 27 percent on the three-year average.

Seven incidents of threatened or actual violence against police officers were recorded in the capital in October, which was more than in September.

The number of registered drugs cases went down between months and there were no such cases classified as major in October. Notifications of drug-driving and drink-driving were both down between months. The police received more reports of theft in October than the month before, but fewer reports of break-ins.

709 traffic incidents were recorded in October, not including from speed cameras. That figure is significantly lower than September. There have been 16 percent fewer traffic violations so far this year than the three-year average.
