Search & rescue squads are this morning re-starting their search for a seaman lost from a Vopnafjörður fishing boat. He has been missing since 14.00 yesterday afternoon. An extensive search began right away but has not yielded results yet. Teams suspended their search overnight.

Search & rescue teams from across East and North Iceland are participating today, with up to 80 people, according to Jón Sigurðarson from the Vopna S&R team based in Vopnafjörður.

The search will extend to both sea and the shoreline, and Jón says conditions today could hardly be better, with light breeze and little cloud cover.

Three lifeboats will take part in today's search: Sveinbjörn Sveinsson from Vopnafjörður, Hafbjörg from Neskaupstaður, and Gunnbjörg from Raufarhöfn. Smaller boats and drones will also be used.
