In order to contain the spread of coronavirus, Belgium is implementing confinement guidelines for the public which is scheduled to be in place until 19 April 2020. As Belgium's borders are now close to foreigners and tourists, all shops around Grand place are now close. Chocolate shops  usually gain 30 percent of their annual sale during easter vacation, these shops are now closed and the owners are trying to deal with the massive stock of Easter rabbits and chocolate eggs that will not go to market. COVID-19 farsóttin hefur kostað yfir fimm þúsund manns lífið í Belgíu. Heilbrigðisyfirvöld í Brussel greindu frá því dag að 313 hefðu dáið síðastliðinn sólarhring. Heildarfjöldi látinna væri því orðinn 5.163. Um það bil helmingurinn lést á elli- og hjúkrunarheimilum, hinir á sjúkrahúsum. Dánartíðnin í Belgíu er hærri en í flestum öðrum löndum í Evrópu.
