Svala is an Icelandic award winning singer & songwriter & a huge celebrity in her home country. She is the daughter of the legendary pop star Bo Halldorsson, who represented Iceland in the ESC in 1995. She has had a very big impact on the Icelandic music scene since she entered it at the age of 7. Svala has countless number one hits under her belt. In 1999 Svala signed one of the biggest record contracts ever made with an Icelandic artist with EMI in the US.
Her first solo single became a Top 30 hit on the Billboard charts in 2001 in the US, launching her career also as a respected songwriter & lyricist. She formed the Icelandic electronic band Steed Lord in 2006, which has had tremendous success on an international level. Svala & Steed Lord have toured all over the world selling out shows & most recently headlining Gay Pride in San Fransisco and Copenhagen in front of 50 thousand people. Her music has been featured in numerous TV shows & films in North America & her iconic music videos that she created with her husband have had a big impact on the music & art scene. Svala is one of the four main coaches on The Voice Iceland where she has received praise for her amazing work on this international TV show. Svala is not only a world class singer, songwriter & performer. She is also a known fashion icon & in 2007 she designed a clothing line for H&M with her band.
Her Eurovision entry “Paper” is very personal to her. She wrote the song with her husband Einar Egilsson, Lester Mendez & Lily Elise. Svala & Einar now form the duo Blissful that has had great success with their first single “Elevate”. Svala competed as a songwriter in Söngvakeppnin back in 2008 but this is the first time she competes as a performer.
